Baptism and Question of the Day

December 27  Saturday

It rained all night and continued on into the day.  I got up early and did a load of dark clothes - Merl was on his last pair of socks.  We had breakfast of fruit salad and bread (it's gone now).  After a phone call, we were reminded of a baptism at 10:00 am.  We hurried to get ready, find our umbrellas and plastic rain coats, and march up the hill.

Presidente Keller and his wife, Teri
Presidente Marcos, wife Sianara,
Livia, and Spencer
Francine, Jane, Jaque, Janice, Joan
(Livia's cousin) and  Livia

We greeted the District President (David Keller) and the Branch President from Sao Francisco de Paulo (Marcos Milkewicz).  We met Livia, neice of Janice, who was being baptized.  It was a nice baptism with several of her family members there.  I played prelude and the opening song.  In the program, Janice, Francine (Janice's daughter), and Jane (Janice's sister) sang "When I am Baptized" - all had beautiful voices.  Presidente Keller performed the baptism.  The closing song was sung by Elder Lagos and accompanied by Elder Collett on the saxophone.
(Janice = Jaw-nee-see, Jane = Jaw-nee, Jaque - Jaw-kee)

Janice always dresses so nicely, and I asked her about her scarf/shawl and how she wears it.  She was demonstrating different ways to wear the scarf including a head wrap.  Elder Lagos found a piece of fabric somewhere and draped it around his head (he was in the Chilean army before going on his mission).

We donned our rain gear and walked home in the rain.  We finished the rest of our Christmas left-overs (chicken, stuffing, green salad, yams) and brought out the bowl of maracuja pudding.  I savored every bit.  As the sun was trying to peep through the clouds, Merl took some of his dark pants off the indoor rack and hung them outside.  Hope the weather holds.

David went home teaching while we studied Portuguese with Ann and ate Christmas cookies.

Spent the evening reading from and discussing chapter 15 in the book written by Hugh Nibley,
'The Essential Nibley.'  Question for the day:  Why will the poor always be with us?  Something to ponder on while we sleep.
