December 30 Tuesday
We started the day with doing some more laundry - the heavens were closed for another day, and everything dried.

We are having the missionaries over for New Year's Eve lunch (four missionaries) and dinner (two missionaries). With transfers, we will be meeting two new elders. This required that the four of us took our walk up to the grocery store to pick up supplies. The bigger, nicer store is further away than where we usually go, but is still an okay walk. David challenged us to learn a new word from each block we walked. We got started with tree (avore), bush (arbusco), fence (cerca), grass (grama), flower (flor), tijolo (brick), garbage (lixo), bee (abela), tool (ferramento), frog (sapo), rock (rocha), stone (peda), and the big word of the day - abagador de borracha (rubber eraser).

| Second trip to store |

On the way back home, we stopped at a paper/school materials loja (store). We purchased a pencil eraser, 100 tin foil pie pans, and paper to make a border for the Primary bulletin board. We didn't find everything we needed at the one grocery store, so the men stayed at home, and Ann and I went to a couple more stores. We have to go searching to find items we want to make. Ann always gets her meat at a particular store that has an old fashioned butcher section. It reminds her of her father who was a butcher and owned several Stokes' Markets in Idaho. Lunch for the missionaries will include lasagna, tossed vegetable salad, homemade French bread and breadsticks, lemon pie, brownies, and homemade sorveti.

Piano lessons at the church went from 3:30 to 6:30 pm with seven girls showing up - an amazing number! I walked around the church as I removed our language homework sheets. Behind the church is a building under construction. I'm always amazed at how the buildings turn out when you see rough framework. the In the evening, David had a meeting at the church, arriving home at 8:30. Ann and I made the lasagna, ice cream, and lemon pie. I will get up early in the morning to make the bread and salad. I think Merl spent most of the day working on the computer to check our budget/financing.
Late in the evening, we had an angry sounding knock at the door, and when David answered it, there was a man and woman questioning if we had taken some of their laundry off the lines. They were missing a bunch. With all of us hanging Wilson's clothes - and things being moved from inside to outside with the rain - Ann had brought in a bunch of clothes that David folded and put in bags. Apparently we didn't know what belonged to whom. David had them retrieve their clothes, and everyone was happy when they left.
We skyped Angela to get her brownie recipe and were surprised when Autumn answered. She was supposed to be in Virginia, but I guess she and Joe had some time to go back to TF for part of the holidays. All seems to be going well at home.
The mosquitoes were bad again, so we closed up all the windows which makes sleep difficult with the heat and the humidity. Need some sleep for a busy day tomorrow - New Year's Eve.
