Everyone was a little slow getting moving this morning. Breakfast was served at 10:30 a.m. There has been 'discussion' recently on how best to cook scrambled eggs and what the word omelet means. I cooked a very nice looking stuffed omelet for the men this morning to end the discussion.
Merl started to put together his talk for church this coming Sunday. It is a three-stop process now: write the talk in English, translate it into Portuguese, then practice over and over again to pronounce the words correctly. David continues to sort and organize church records, trying to connect all the newly baptized children to parents and other family members, and to clean up the records in general.
Between the two of them, there is no room at the table to eat.
Merl and I walked to town for clear spray paint at the hardware store (loja de ferragens), white out and notebook (from my favorite loja de papelaria), and a light bulb from the Luz loja for our bedroom. We decided to take the long way back home to check out a little hardware store on a side street.
After the Branch Presidency meeting last night, Merl was under the impression that there would be no integration meeting in Cisco tonight. After running into Danubia (Rodrigo's wife), we were reminded that there was supposed to be piano lessons before the meeting. This resulted in a frantic run to the bus to catch a ride to Pres. Marcos' home. We sat at his home for an hour waiting for our ride to Cisco - arriving at 8:05 p.m. (meeting was to start at 7:30). After we arrived, the Elders started the meeting with a song and short spiritual lesson, then played team charades and a game named cat and mouse. Everyone sat in a circle, and the Elders brought out two ties - one the cat, and one the mouse. The ties were given to two people on opposite sides of the circle. On the count of 3, the mouse tie had to be tied with two knots, then undone, and passed to the next person. The cat tie had to be tied with one knot then undone, and passed to the next person. When the cat tie caught the mouse tie, the person with the ties had to stand up and do something silly. The kids really got into that game.
After the meeting, it was raining pretty hard; the two members of the presidency who had cars were out visiting and didn't get back until after 10:00. They then piled kids into their cars to take them home - some walk a long distance to get to the church. Rodrigo came back and picked us up and had us home around 11:00 p.m. It's a 30 minute drive back to Canela. David and Ann were getting pretty concerned because of the hour, but the night ended well.
