Nova Petrópolis – Lunch and Labirinto Verde

January 12 (continued)

After saying good-bye to the immigrant park, we drove around town a little bit and went to lunch at a German style restaurant named Café & CIA.

Xiz - they put peas and corn in
everything here. . . pizza,
hotdogs, sandwiches
I ordered a big fruit salad that had slices of mango, melon, and strawberries on a bed of lettuce; the rest ordered a big hot sandwich that fills a dinner plate called Xiz (pronounced as Sheez), fries, milk shakes, and guarana.  Desserts and pastries looked delicious along with all the traditional breads.  My kind of place!
A lot of the architecture of Nova Petrópolis is very German.  We enjoyed looking at some of the city sites as we drove to our next destination.

The final stop of our visit to Nova Petrópolis was Lairinto Verde, a very fun place.

Not quite like the corn mazes at home, but a novelty here.  We had to try each of the options to make the experience last longer.

David and Ann started first and finished first.  The platform in the middle is so someone on the outside can take your picture.

The grounds in the park were beautiful with little artisan shops around.
On the drive back home to Canela, we stopped at a lumber yard in hopes of finding something suitable to make plaques for the upcoming Relief Society birthday meeting in March.  As Stake Relief Society President, Sis. Copa is organizing a fun day with lunch with projects from each of the branches for the women to do.  finding the right materials and resources here can be challenging times.

After resting at home for a bit, Ann and I walked to town to purchase some white shirts I found on sale.  I got the only three men's small shirts there for Pres. Anderson to distribute.  Still looking for youth sizes.

Tonight we had Aristeu, Meri, and Natalya Menezes over for a waffle dinner.  (Aristeu was the first person we met when we arrived at the bus station in Canela.) We made homemade maple syrup (which is a hit here) and served vanilla ice cream for those who wanted it.  Meri brought us a bag of granola and some cookies from where she works.  It is the best granola!  After eating, we played Spot It - which has also become a fun game here. . . glad I brought it.  We sent them home with a small bottle of maple flavoring and then tried to get some sleep.  Sleep is almost impossible with the heat and the noise.
