Natal Luz

January 7 (Continued)

The big Christmas season attraction in Gramado is the annual Natal Luz, a performance depicting the creation of the world and the birth of Christ in lights, fireworks, water, and music. D&A went to the 2012/13 program and had purchased a DVD of the 2013-14 production which we watched a few days earlier.  It was amazing, and we were excited to see the new edition live.  We hope to purchase a DVD of what we viewed today (2014/15 expected to be ready in February).

We wanted to arrive at the lake early to get in line for good seats.  The sky continued to get darker, but the show goes on - rain or shine.  There was a concession stand selling food items for the hungry patrons.  I was one of them by now, ordered a cachorro quente covered with thread-like French fries (yes, I ate a hot dog - first one in years, and it tasted good).

A little boy sitting on the ledge outside of the entrance next to us had a espetinho (meat on a spit).
Ann got in line when she noticed tour buses full of people arriving on the street above.  The show was to start at 9:30 pm,
and we were in line about 8:00 pm.

Make someone happy with a smile

It was fun visiting with those around us as we patiently waited  You could feel the anticipation rise as the minutes ticked away.  At the appointed time, the gate was open, and we filed into find our seats.  We were surprised - and very pleased - to find our seats on the lower level next to the water - and with actual stadium seats, not bleachers.  As the sky darkened, someone came around with a candle and paper shield to be used later in the show.

Shortly before the show was to begin, it started to lightly rain.  Everyone pulled out their little rain ponchos.  Ours were the only blue ones - picked them up in Volos, Greece.  I am so glad we kept them - we use them frequently here.  Rain didn't last long, but the ponchos kept us warm.

What followed was a most incredible musical extravaganza - no way to capture it in the dark on my little camera.  That is why we will buy the video.  Here are a few pictures to look at until then.  Chills still tingle my spine as I think of the Hallelujah Chorus sung at the end. . .
