January 26 Monday (cont.)

A short distance by car from the zoo (and included in our zoo admission) was the G
aúcho Parque.

The Gaúcho Park is the only theme park in the world that preserves the formation and evolution of the gaucho, their habits, and customs. No pictures were allowed in the museum area, a large barn with actual artifacts and antiques of Gaúcho life and the early formation of the gaucho. In chronological order, the thousand piece collection depicted the work, customs, and the business cycle in the history of the gaucho.

It seemed that everything was based on cows and leather. Their clothes, tents, boats, cooking and storage pots, food (etc.) were all made of leather. Their giant wooden wheels on their carts were even wrapped with leather strips. It had to have been a very hard existence, but the G
aúchos of today are very proud of their heritage.

After the park visit, we went to the Copas and had a nice lunch of chicken/vegetable soup, rolls, fruit smoothies, and cookies and ice cream. Then home for a short rest before our bus ride to the home of Presidente Marcos. We took our waffle iron, fry pan, maple flavoring, and other supplies with us to make waffles and pancakes - a treat for Brazilians.
It turned out to be dinner for 20 - the other two members of the Branch Presidency and their families joined us for dinner and Family Home Evening.

Spencer conducted FHE, Bruna gave the lesson, and then everyone shared their testimonies. Where the language was a barrier to communication, the spirit filled in. It was a great evening with yummy desserts brought by the other families. Pres. Marcos give us a ride home at the end - arrived at 11:45 p.m. and then Skyped with Brian.
It has been a long but wonderful day!
