Beautiful Friday - Meeting and Dinner

March 13 - Friday

The first thing Merl did this morning was to look up the weather. . . he told us that the temperatures were going to be up to 97 all week.  This just didn't sound right for where we are.  Further checking found that there are two Canelas in Brazil - he was checking the one much further north.  The temperature is expected to be in the mid 70s for the next few days here - perfect weather for me.

Halo of light above their heads
I had a cup  Dauper granola with coconut yogurt milk for breakfast - fast and yummy.  We were out the door early to catch the 8:30 a.m. bus to Gramado for the District missionary meeting.  We met our four Elders at the bus station; after arriving in Gramado, we had a leisurely walk to the church - meeting up with the two Elders from SF de Paula.  What a great group of young men!

Each Friday morning, one of the Elders writes the agenda on the chalkboard.  This morning. Ann's name was put down for the opening prayer and mine for reciting Seu Proposito.  The Elders usually say it so quickly that I can only grasp a few words.  Today they got to go at my pace as I read:

Convidar a pessoas a achegarem-se a Cristo, ajudando-as a receber o evangelho restaurado por meio da fé em Jesus Cristo e um Sua Expiação, do apprendimento, do batismo,e se receber o dom do Espirito Santo, e de perseverar até fim.    (Preach My Gospel, page 1)

The English game today was a guessing game.  One Elder would write a word in English on the chalkboard with another Elder sitting in front so he couldn't see.  The rest of us would give a clue in English as to what the word was.  Some were harder than others, but they eventually were able to guess the word.  They did the same thing with us - only writing the words in Portuguese.

Elders Cooper, Cerrano, Rebeira,
Floriani with Sister Copa
This week there were three Elders who had birthdays and one Elder (Cooper from Utah) who will be going home next week.  Elder Cooper made a yummy dessert and Sister Copa made chocolate chip cookies.  We all sang the traditional birthday song and enjoyed the treats.

Fig leaves
We piled into Copa's car to run a few errands after the meeting.  David, Merl, and I were dropped off at the dry cleaners while the rest went to pick up a couple of sample plaques from the Gramada Relief Society President's home.

After the dry cleaners, we walked to an electronics store to get a printer cartridge and a flash drive and DVDs for the camp pictures.  We were to meet up again by the dry cleaners.
We had a nice walk back stopping to smell a gardenia, picking a fig, and looking almost straight down into a valley below the city streets.  They are lucky they don't get snow here - many people live down steep, winding roads.  We  caught up with our ride nd arrived home about noon.

After lunch, we each busied ourselves with things needing to be done.  I did laundry and worked on the blog while the others studied talks (Ann is speaking in Sacrament meeting on Sunday and Merl has been asked to speak soon - they give him a little more time to prepare).  David continues to organize all the records in the branch.  David and Ann then went with the missionaries to provide information about Primary to a young girl who may be baptized.

Merl and I chose to have a date night - we walked around the main street of town trying to decide what we wanted to do, and ended up at Espelho Gaúcha Churrascaria for dinner.  This was our first churrascaria dinner this trip.  Most people eat dinner late here, so we were the first ones to arrive.  We are not big meat eaters, and we couldn't keep up with the men bringing out their spits of meat. . . we asked them to come a little slower.  Gradually a few more people came and gave us some relief.  The food was very good, but we are learning to be careful to not overeat, no matter how tasty.  A little sobermesa at the end was just right.  The men working tonight were fun to be with and very attentive.

We arrived home about 8:30 p.m. - David and Ann were not at home, yet.  I worked on the blog hoping to get completely caught up before the temple trip early in the morning (didn't quite make it, but close).  We need to be on the bus in the morning at 6:00 a.m., so everyone went to bed a bit earlier tonight.
